Safe Removal of SP2 install files

N

Nevada Jack

I know this has been posted before, but what SP2 files in the WINDOWS
Directory can be deleted?

I have a list of $NtUninstallKBxxxxx$ Files in blue and one
$NtServicePackUninstall$ and I would like to get rid of as many as possible.
I have the SP2CD from MS and also a downloaded copy of the 266MB file which
I did the original install from. I have no plans to uninstall SP2 so how
many of the files can I delete?

TIA

Jack

The KB nnnnnn ones are specific fixes, might be post SP2, check on the
nnnnnn in http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;nnnnnn and if
satisfied you will not want to uninstall that one, get rid of that
folder too.

Hi,
In the last direction,

=====
There will also be a large folder C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles. Do not
delete this - it will be used in future by Windows File Protection - but
on an NTFS disk you can compress it to save about 200MB of disk space.
R-click on it, Properties, click the Advanced button, and select 'Compress'

Do I compress the "just the folder" or "folder and all the files inside"?
Thanks,
Jim

All the files inside; that is what compressing a folder has to imply,
otherwise you gain nothing. The option given is for the potential case
of a folder containing some files that you might want to compress and
some sub-folders of files that you would not. Not a case I think at all
likely in practice
