Cannot get system to reboot in safe Mode using F8 key on
start up. What else can I do to get to safe mode?

When your computer initially boots up, hit the "F Lock" key so
that your "F8" key will work.

Non standard keyboards and keyboards for morons have other functions assigned to the F keys, like Help, Undo, Redo etc. To make them work properly one has to press the F Lock key which switches them from moron mode (the default) to proper mode (where pressing F8 means F8 rather than forwards (like the toolbar button) in IE).

Assuming you have an "F Lock" key on the keyboard. My Microsoft
Natural doesn't. None of the Dell systems at my place of employment
have that key either.

In Windows, Start - Run MSConfig.exe

In the Boot.ini page, check /SAFEBOOT

Apply and exit, to reboot to Safe Mode.

You will need to run it again to restore the setting for the return; and
then when the boot has a message about 'Troubleshooting' check the 'dont
show again' box and Exit
