Safe mode not completing load process

Adice: - In the process of updating my video driver, I
lost power to my PC. Now when I boot up, I do not receive
video after the Windows XP splash screen. I attempted to
run XP safe mode, however does not complete the loading
process to let me in. It loads approx. 25 files, then
freezes. How can I a generic vga driver enabled to allow
my video to restore?

Using ASUSV9520 video card on an ASUS P4C800E -Deluxe
mother board. No on board video adapter.

Edit the hidden c:\boot.ini file - you can get a free tool to do it,
EDITBINI, in the free tools at www.bootitng.com, to run it from from a
DOS mode boot floppy like a Win98 startup disk

The last line will be something like
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP" /fastdetect

add a space and /basevideo
on the same line after the /fastdetect
