Safe Mode HELP!

Yes overkill, but the op has been trying to fix this for a few days now. If
they can't understand what others have suggested over and over, then a
repair install would be a easy way to fix it. The problem with roy's advice
is the op cannot bring the boot menu up as they are stuck in hibernation
mode. If they can't get the boot menu, then they can't get safe mode or VGA
mode. If no VGA or safe mode, then you can't get into device manager and
cannot uninstall the video card. If they follow advice posted yesterday and
today to try to get out of the hibernation loop, then they can go into safe
mode and just reset the refresh rate.

I understand but if she's afraid of uninstalling the display driver
she'll be terrified doing a repair install I would think. I do agree
with you though and that's why I suggested to try the easier/quicker
possible solution first.

Hi,

Am I the op?(sorry, new here)
I was just reading the last few messages. Yes, That is
exactly it. I amstuck in hybernation mode. I will still
try to fix it without the repair install, but if that is
my last resort, then that is my last resort. I was told
that if I do a repair install I need to re-install
windows updates and service packages. Well I know what
the windows updates is, but what is the service package?

Heather

Yes you guys are right, I am terrified of both haha. I
will try it out tonight though. So if I do have to
uninstall the drivers, how does it automatically re-
install? I don't understand...

Hello,
Actually Safe Mode does not work for this.
You need to use Enable VGA mode.
Safe Mode does not load the installed video driver it uses the standard
SVGA driver instead to load. Since this is not the installed video driver,
any changes in Safe Mode do affect the installed video driver once you
reboot normally.
Enable VGA mode loads the installed video driver but at the default
resolution 640x480, loads the default refresh rate of 60hz, uses I think
256 colors( not sure on this one. Since this is the installed video
driver, if you make changes they change the way Windows will boot normally
with that driver.

Thanks,

| Thank you, if any other solutions dont work I will try to

|
| Where is the refresh rate again and what should it be?

| Thank you so very much for your help!!!

True, good point.

When you boot into Windows it automatically installs drivers when it finds
hardware that isn't installed yet. Who knows how it works, you'd have to ask
the ms programmers, I just know it does.

Yes, you're the op. (original post)
Service packs are just really big updates that roll all previous updates
into one and may add features, fixes, and security patches to windows.

How do I get these service packs?

Hello,
To get out of the hibernation state, boot to recovery console and delete
the hiberfil.sys file.
Then reboot normally.
NTLDR looks at the hiberfil.sys file to determine whether on boot it needs
to be loaded or not. If that file is not present, it will boot normally
and create a new file for the next hibernation attempt.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]
