Runtime Error

When I open my Outlook 2002 for the first time after
booting the computer I get the following error:

"Runtime Error! Program: C:\PROGRAM~1\MICROS~4\Office10
\OUTLOOK.EXE. Abnormal Program Termination."

After that if I close and reopen Outlook I do not get the
error. I have searched the knowledge base without result.

Where do I look to solve this problem?

I am having the same difficulty: C++ runtime error/abnormal program
termination in outlook.exe. This happens when I open outlook for the first
time and then outlook checks folders for errors on a second opening of the
software.

I have Windows XP sp2, Norton Internet Security 2005 and the antispam
plugin. All software, including office and symantec products have the latest
updates as of 10/26/2004.

It would seem that the problem lies with Norton Internet Security and the
Antispam plugin. While there is a suggestion to rename the plugin file to
avoid the error, then I have to endure all that spam. Frankly, I'm looking
for a fix from either Symantec or Microsoft that allows both products to
function. I paid for the software, afterall, and both outlook and the spam
plug-in should function as promised.

Please, if anyone has any knowledge of a real fix, please let me know.
Thank you in advance!

Hi,
My problem exactly. I also have Norton Internet 2005 and have the problem
you describe plus another one with pop-ups advising me of security risks that
I cannot close. The pop-up window keeps coming back. Is there a Norton
update available? They must be aware of these problems?
Thanks,
Thea

I receive thie error when closing Outlook, Yes it happened to me after I
installed XP SP2 and the SP3 Office upgrade. I am using only Norton
Anti-Virus and not Norton Internet security. If I choose retry to debug and I
reopen Outlook Outlook tries to repair the personal folders including trhe
archrive floder.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

I was getting the runtime errors until I removed two of the three Outlook
profiles that were on my PC. It seems that the error may only occur on
computers that have multiple profiles. Of course, that's not a good answer:
if you have multiple profiles, it's probably because you WANT multiple
profiles. But if you can live with combining your profiles into one, that
may be a good workaround.

Even so, I'm still having a conflict between Outlook XP SP3 and NIS 2005. If
the antispam feature of NIS is enabled, I can't pull down any mail from my
POP server. I'm having the problem described in
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Applications/MS_Office/Outlook/Q_20891652.html.
As soon as I disable the antispam feature, mail starts coming in with no
difficulty.

I sure would like to find a way to use both Outlook and Norton Antispam.
Neither the Symantec nor the Microsoft knowledge bases seem to have any
mentions of this problem, much less a fix.

Ditto on starting Outlook; 4 profiles, XP SP2, Office XP Pro SP3, NIS 2005.

Except it did not happen when I had just the default Outlook.pst file
running, only when I opened other saved .pst files of mine. Uninstall and
reinstall of Outlook does not help, nor closing down my other .pst files.

Folks,

I had the same problem and sent an e-mail to Symantec/Norton today. I
suspect it is a problem with the NIS 2005 Anti-Spam integration with the
Microsoft Outlook client. I went to the Norton Anti-Spam and in Options,
Email Client Integration, I unchecked Outlook as an option in the "Select the
e-mail clients with which you want Norton Anti-Spam to integrate." That
seems to have addressed the immediate problem -- but doesn't solve the bigger
issue of not being able to integrate Norton's Anti-Spam into Outlook. Will
wait to how Symantec/Norton addresses this problem.

Curious to see if you have heard back from Symantec/Norton or if anybody else
has useful information...?
