runtime error 216

Barry Karas

I'm getting a message on my desktop: runtime error 216. Nothing I do
can delete it, not even rebooting w/ a 10 min. wait. How would I get
rid of the error message?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

Could you describe the problem a bit more? Where are you seeing the
error? Is it in a popup dialog?

MSDN describes a Window's 216 message as

"The image file %1 is valid, but is for a machine type other than the
current machine."

You can find all Window's numbered error messages here:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d.../html/cerefsystemerrors-alphabeticalorder.asp

or, if that link breaks,

Yes.
MSDN describes a Window's 216 message as

"The image file %1 is valid, but is for a machine type other than the
current machine."

What does "%1" mean. [I assume that the people at MS know basic
arithmetic/math.]

What is the "machine type other than the current machine"? An
automobile?

Thank you,

Hey, Barry, I just found this while searching for info re: 216--

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q259279/

It's not good--it means you might have a virus. You'll want to check
out what they say as quickly as possible.

Good luck!

P.S. The %1 (or %[any-number]) is a place-holder for something. In
this case, a placeholder for the name of a file. So the message
might've actually appeared like:

The image file BrigitteBardot.PNG is valid ...

automobile?

:)

Rather, that it's meant for a Mac, and your computer is Windows (for
instance).
