Runs on startup

When I installed Microsoft Anitspyware, I deselected the
option that I thought said "run on startup". I also
turned off "real time protection"

I noticed that it ran at start-up, so I closed it and it
said "are you sure?, if you close, real time protection
will be turned off?". - odd, it shouldn't be running
anyway.

I opened [options][settings] and turned off the "Security
Agents at startup"

IT STILL RUNS AT STARTUP!

I just want another good spyware checker (which this
seems to be), I don't want or need another running
program watching what I do. Can someone please tell me
how to stop this program from running at startup? If it's
in the registry, that's fine, but frankly, it shouldn't
be the only way.

thanks

Use the "workaround" paragraph in this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892375 End users may be prompted to allow or
block administrative actions that originate from a central management tool
after they install Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) on a computer that is managed
by Systems Management Server 2003

(Yes, it shouldn't need to be this way, but that's the nature of a beta, and
this beta in particular.)

Yes, I agree, MSAS needs to have MANUAL capability. In XP, run MSCONFIG > Startup, and ensure gcasServ is unchecked > OK. It should then not run at startup.
