how do I disable all of the background components and shields

Kev

Hello,

I am running both ms antispyware beta1 and spysweeper
from webroot. Currently, I have ms antispyware loading on
startup and all real time protection agents active In the
options-settings screen under real time protection, I
unchecked the startup option box that said enable ms
antispyware security agents on startup and clicked save.
I restarted windows xp and on my taskbar, ms antispyware
still showed as active, however the security agent status
was disabled. Does this mean the protection is off? If
so, why does the icon in systra say active. Do I also
need to uncheck the enable real time spyware threat
protection box under options-settings, or is this
dependent on the startup option I unchecked above?
I do not want both msas and spysweeper real time
protection running at the same time since they do
virtually the same thing. I just want to be able to have
msas installed and available to run a manual scan should
I decide to do so.
Please help.

Thanks

Kev

Use the workaround paragraph in the above KB article.

So your saying that even on a single win xp system that I
need to delete the registry key?

Also, can you tell me if this product removes from a
system without issues using add remove programs?

Thanks

You can also just remove the startup item, but I think the KB article method
is more effective. Yes this is a rediculous length to have to go, but given
the way the beta works, that's the story. Real-time protection is a big
part of this product, and it works quite well.

I know of no issues with just uninstalling. There are installer issues that
sometimes prevent installs and uninstalls, but generally if you've installed
easily, the uninstall is equally easy.

The program does leave behind registry entries which I've never looked at.
I don't consider this to be an "issue." It also leaves behind a set of
files in the installation directory. I believe perhaps both of these have
the intent of allowing a reinstall without loss of information--settings,
quarantine items, etc. If you aren't worried about that, you can safely
blow away the installation directory.

thanks for your quick and complete replies Bill. I think
I will leave msas running and just use webroot spysweeper
for scans. Spysweeper is much easier to disable.
Thanks again
Kev
