Running Windows2000 on an HP 9694C computer

When I loaded Windows 2000 OS on my HP 9694 computer, there wasn't any sound. Also, I wasn't able to connect to the Internet using my dial-up program. What appears to be the problem. HP told me they do not support Winds2000 or NT. Why?
