Running TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service

Hi all,

I have a computer running Windows 2000 SP3 that is not connected to a
network. A piece of software requires a network connection, so I
setup a loopback connection. However, I still get an error saying
that a socket cannot be created. I think that the problem is that the
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service needs to be running. However, under the
Services panel, I get the following error when trying to start it:
"Error 1075: A dependency service does not exist." So, my question
is, what should I do to get the TCP/IP NetBIOS service running? Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Keith

What software is this, and how did you set up the loopback?

The sfotware is CPLEX, an optimization package. The loopback was
setup by creating a new network interface.

Without knowing anything else, I'd say shutdown the helper service and
create a entry in your LMHOSTS file so you have name association with the
loopback interface.
