Running Processes causing me grief????

Lately i have had a problem with my memory. When i have finished with a
program i close it down. It stays in the running processes in task manager,
clogging up my memory. I have tried killing it but to no avail it stays
until i shut down my computer. I recently installed 2 gig of new memory,
could this be the problem?

I have norton anti-virus, ad-aware and microsoft anti-spyware in which i run
regulary. I also use norton systemworks. I have only had this problem for
the past couple of weeks despite upgrading my memory 3 months ago.

Give us an example of a program that seems to stay in memory after you shut
it down.
Most of the programs you have mentioned have a part that never should shut
down as they monitor your system and are doing their job.

I found out that the memory that i had bought was not compatible with my pc.
I put the original memory back i it that came with the computer from pc world.

It still occasionally keeps processes running, mainly microsoft office
programs. I know that outlook will run in the background if you exit but
what about word.

On the whole my computer is running slowly despite having all the anti
virus and anti-spyware software. my computer is an advent amd 64 bit 3400
with 512 memory

I re-installed windows the other day and haven't installed too much
software on it.

It is driving me mad
