Running MS Backup

When running the Backup program that comes with XP, if the data being backed
up exceeds the size of the CD or DVD it's being saved to, will Backup prompt
you to insert another disc?

Windows Backup will not backup directly to an optical drive

No, it won't. What you should do is backup to a file. Then you use packet
writing software (Nero, Easy CD Creator) to put the file on as many disks as
are needed.
