A while back I had a virus, Swen32 or something like
that. I think I got rid of the virus, but now I can't get
any files to work on my computer. All the icons don't
work except for internet explorer and outlook express. It
says that all the "pathing" is wrong, but everythings in
the right place. What is wrong with my computer, and how
do I fix it?

hi Nathan Clark

what you can do about the virus problem is scan your
system again to find any traces of virus, moreover you
may have to check the path of the files again by copying
the path and try it using the run dialog box.

hope this resolves issue
regards,
sandy

It sounds like you had more than the swen worm on your machine. The article
linked below talks about a virus capable of disabling the EXE files. Since this
article has been written several more viruses that can do this have appeared.

You Are Unable to Start a Program with an .exe File Extension
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310585

Either your system is still infected with a virus other than swen or your
antivirus program did its job removing all infections BUT the registry
entries for EXE files have not been repaired yet.

First make sure your system is clean. If you need an antivirus program and
can't afford to buy one, AVG is free and effective. There are also several
online scanners available:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

To repair EXE files perform the repairs detailed in the linked article
above or use a tool offered by MVP Doug Knox that can automatically
repair the EXE file type and functionality:
