What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also,
remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure
to update these programs before running them. These programs are free,
so run them both since they complement each other. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode. You may also need to
run CWShredder from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html .
Please read the instructions carefully. A great resource for dealing
with spyware is http://www.spywareinfo.com. Also, make sure you've
visited Windows Update and applied all security patches. Make sure you
are running a firewall.

thank you very much for your help, i am going to try it
out in a moment. norton 2004 shows it as 'winfavorites'.
it tells me to delete a registry key that 'winfavorites'
sets up but i have looked and it is not there, it also
says it is rated as 'low' danger. it is a pain more than
anything because i can click end now and thats fine but
it wont save any changes. i will contact you again if
that is ok with you, to let you know my progress.
thanks again

The "winfavorites" thing is undoubtedly spyware, so use the spyware
removal steps from my first post. Of course we want to hear how things
worked for you! However, see this next bit of information to make
things easier for you:

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you
learn to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows,
but you can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are
some links to information about newsgroups to broaden your posting
pleasure!
