On shut down get rundll32.exe shutting down error
message. Have to end program to enable shutdown.
Sometimes get ISSET_SE or WOWEXEC error messages before
it will shut down. Have checked no applications or
programs are running, including ALT>CONT>DEL,
applications list is clean. Can't find anything on
Windows XP Shutdown Troubleshooter website that helps.

Please do these troubleshooting steps:

1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). These programs are free, so use them both since
they complement each other. Be sure to update these programs before
running, and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode.

Malke,
Have latest & updated Norton '03, Adaware and spybot. Ran
them the other day to no avail, but will try again as
have known adaware to sometimes miss something embedded
deep. You confirm I may be on the right track.
Thanks.

You might want to run Task Manager when you get the error to see what's
running. Don't forget CWShredder and HijackThis as tools in the fight
against malware, but you absolutely have to read the instructions
first. HijackThis is not a tool for newbies. Two great resources for
information on getting rid of malware are:

Some of this malware is really hard to get rid of, too.

Good luck,

Malke
