rundll32 error in control panel

Hi
I seem to have developed an issue with my XP home. when i try to open
anything in Control Panel, i get an error that says:
rundll32.exe is not a valid Win 32 application.

is there a quick fix for this ..... or even a not so quick fix.... i just
wanna fix it!!

If the above doesn't help, nor apply: Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: SFC
