Run a DLL as an App

Rick

I have encountered this problem and am sure many of you
many have had a similar problem with the rundll32.exe
application. Well after numerous hours of trying to find
a fix I was unsuccessful. The following errors are given
to me: Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. This
only occurs on startup and once closed will not occur
again. The error report states AppName: rundll32.exe
AppVer: 5.1.2600.0 ModName: x10net.dll
ModVer: 2.0.0.40 Offset: 000155b0.

Please help if you have figured out a solution to this
problem. Thanks.

Very few problems with rundll32.exe in XP.
Rundll32.exe has a single purpose: to run DLL files as an application. When
that DLL file fails to perform, an error is generated. This is a problem
with the DLL or application the DLL belongs to.

If using the full X10Net application, see their home page for a link to
their current help file. The help file should contain contact information
for tech support (couldn't find any on their website):
http://www.mtnsys.com/pages/X10Net.htm

Also, some hardware such as display adapters with remote controls use
portions of the x10net software. Found the following (and other references)
by searching Google Groups for "x10net.dll" :

The trouble will almost certainly not be in rundll itself, but in what
it is being asked to run. As this occurs at startup, check in a run of
MSConfig.exe and look in the startup page for any line where the
'command' is for rundll32.exe - uncheck it to prevent it running. Once
you have identified the offending item for sure, see what it was that
follows in the command, to see what might be wrong with that -and indeed
whether you want it at all.
