Rules & alerts plus .pst files

I've got a password protected .pst file which I've archived mail to... I
would like to set up a rule so that mails from certain people go directly to
a folder within a .pst data file, rather than stay in my inbox for everyone
to see, particularly when I am away from work and colleagues helpfully check
my mail on my behalf....

Is it possible to do this, or does the .pst file have to actually be open
before mails can be moved immediately into it on receipt?

The .pst file needs to be visible in the Folder List. If it's not, the rule
will fail.
