RRAS

I am hoping someone will be able to help me quite quickly as I am in a bit
of trouble. I have a server running SBS in my office in France, I am
currently in the UK. It has 2 NIC's one internal 192.168.0.1 and one for
external connection to net via ADSL 192.168.1.2, I have a DSL router
(Netgear DG814)which is 192.168.1.1. Everything has been fine until I lost
connectivity this morning. I have had one of my non technical people
looking at the router settings and I am fairly sure it is a hardware issue
with the router. I previously configured the whole thing using ICW.

I have a modem that I have never configured to dial in because I do not have
a line there. As an emergency measure I have got someone to run a phone
extension to the modem so I can dial in. I have never fully configured this
and need to get dial in working quickly. At the moment it just rings
through, the server does not answer.

Can anyone offer any advice of what I need to get someone to do in order to
get the connectioin working?

Through ICW I have had VPN access working prior to the problem so I know
remote access policies and certain users have access but the modem just
doesnt answer.

Thanks in advance

Richard

Look under RRAS in Admin Tools and make sure that the Server Properties are
set for LAN and demand dial.

I've had the problem you describe several times, and it's always been the
DSL provider. Can you have someone bring up the router's configuration page
and see if it has an IP assigned (assuming dhcp)? Can they ping out to the
internet from the server? In the absence of any services that shut down or
errors logged, or a hardware failure, it seems unlikely that the problem
could be on your end - what could have changed to cause it? I would just
suspect a service outage before a working router sitting on a shelf and just
spontaneously failing.

Richard,

Also check in RRAS under servername/Ports right click and select
Properties.. Make sure that the modem is set to at least Remote Access
Connections (inbound only)

Course you would also want to make sure you are dialing the right number..
If possible check to see if the modem has any lights (like AA) blinking to
indicate that the phone line it's plugged into is ringing..

Hope that helps,
