RPC Service Won't Start

Windows XP w/SP1. The RPC Service won't start. When I try to start it I get the following error...Error 1053:The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely manner. Is there a way to force start this service or fix this error. I'm attempting to start the service thru control panel-administrative tools-services icon.

Ck this:

Control Panel> Admin. Tools> Componet Services> RPC>
Rt Click> Properties> Recovery Tab, Change First "To
Restart Service or take no action"
