RPC Service Terimated unexpectly

I have tried to correct this for the last 24 hours. to
little sucsess. Critical update and service pack was
(41) now (34), Windows Xp was (24) now (19), Driver
update was(1) now (0) I have tried to download these all
together and by themselfs. But they will not install. I
get these messages "the microsoft VM you are attempting
to install is aproteccted system and can not be updated
with a later release of the operating system." or "The
version of windows you have instalkled does not match the
update you are trying to install. Help I do not like
working without my fire wall.

Diane;
First, do not worry about Recommended or Drivers.
Second, get ALL Critical Updates.
Install no more than 4 at a time.
