RPC Server

I've got a problem that I absolutely cannot figure out so
I've come here for some help.

I'm running Windows XP Professional, and I'm trying to
install my printer. It's a HP Deskjet 3320, and every time
I try to install the drivers, I get an error message: "The
RPC server is unavailable" and the drivers don't install.

What I'd like to know is, What is an RPC server? Why is it
on my computer? What does it do? And how can I get it back
so I can install my printer?

Attempts at googling this error message got me nowhere,
however one page hinted that there might be a missing .dll
file. If this is the case, which .dll file is it and how
can I get it back?

Please help me. Any and all help you can give is much
appreciated.

I tried downloading the new driver, but the driver installation wizard could not detect my printer and my RPC server is still unavailable. I double and triple checked, my printer is definitely plugged into an outlet, and the USB cable is definitely securely plugged into both computer and printer, and the printer is most certainly on. Is there anything else I could try? I've read some of the other documents and questions posted in the newsgroups here pertaining to my problem but I haven't yet found one that helped me.
