RPC Server is unavailable

Whle trying to install a new printer, I receive the following error message

There was a problem installing this hardware:

Epson Stylus cx3800,

An error occurred during installation of the device

RPC server is unavailable.

The Epson tech support say it is a Windows XP problem. Any ideas?? Thanks

I TOO AM HAVING SAME PROBLEM == CAN T EVEN RUN NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS -- AND NO
NETWORKS BEING DETECTED IN MY NETWORK PLACES --ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE
WINDOWS INSTALLER SAYING ITS NOT ABLE TO ACCESS --- I SORTA FIXED IT BY
RE-DOWNLOADING IT AND REPLACING -- BUT SINCE THEN -- RPC - IS GONE ..??
