I have recently built a new computer and installed Windows XP Pro. As soon as
I started it, I began encountering many problems. I wasn't able to connect to
the Internet through a thoroughly tested and used Ethernet cable, however
after searching for awhile on Google, I found that I now have to manually
start my DHCP and DNS clients in Services, even though they are on Automatic.
Second, all but five of the services set on Automatic are not starting on
startup, including Automatic Updates, Plug and Play, Windows Management
Instrumentation, Themes, and a lot of others. Third, I am unable to install
certain programs or drivers because it gives me a RPC server unavailable
message, even though my RPC service is started and on Automatic. I also get
this message when I attempt to view any Service's dependencies. Fourth, I
have no audio ever, even though Windows Audio is started and have thoroughly
used speakers plugged into the right jack. Fifth, when I try to troubleshoot
the audio problem by using Help and Service Center's Sound Troubleshooter,
Windows tells me it cannot find helpctr.exe. I've looked in
C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\ and there is no helpctr.exe. Can
anybody please help me with these problems, they are driving me crazy!
