Is it possible to rotate an object using the custom animation task bar? If so, how is it done?

Yes, but only using PowerPoint version 2002 or above.

There are some tricks in older versions.

Change org to com to defuse anti-spam,

Good to hear. How is it done? I'm running the newest version of Powerpoint.

Right click on an object
Custom Animation | Add effect | Emphasis | Spin
and adjust the options (speed direction and degrees).
