Root Folder Type

Any idea on what to do when vista it sets your C: drive root folder to be a
music folder type? Usually you can view the properties of a folder and
select the customise tab and choose what type of folder you want it to be.
Changing the view to "Details" doesn't help as when it's a music folder the
only details are music related ones such as artist, genre.. etc.

Look for a desktop.ini file in the folder (a system file which is usually
hidden by the explorer). AFAIK the root folder should not contain such a
file - therefore you can try to rename it which remove the "music
property".

Desktop.ini doesn't exist. I even tried copying one in to the root folder
that has the FolderType=NotSpecified but didn't work...

Hi Mike,

You need to set the "Folder Type Template" to "All Items". You can see
how to do it at this link. This should get it back to normal for you.

Shawn,

Obviously your skim reading skills need a lot of work.

Could you please explain in more detail how to set the Folder Type Template
specifically on the root drive? (i.e.. C:\)

Mike.

Mike

Hi Rick,

I couldn't find one in the root... Stock standard files only. Thanks tho.

My apologies Mike,

I was thinking inside of the C:\ (EX: Program Files, etc...).

Try running the comand "sfc /scannow" in a elevated command prompt to
see if it will repair it for you. If you need details on how, you can
look at this link:

Hope this helps,

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 99% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

If I change the icon size to extra large, I can see the music overlay....

Thanks anyway..

M

Mike

Yep did that already... works fine.. until you reboot (thanks to the
plethora of patches released)

Plus my disk icon still has the music note overlay

Nice idea tho..

Ok Mike,

I think I found a solution for you.

First:
Reset Vista's folder view settings so it will remember the last changes
made by you to the explorer window again. See this link for how, and do
the Second Method:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html

Second:
Change the "Root Directory" by opening the "Users" folder and change
the folder type template to "All items" if it is not, then open Folder
Options and click "Apply to folders" in View tab. See this link for
how: (It has been updated to include this)
