My client is on a child domain which no longer has access
to the original root controller.

Is there anyway that we can demote the two DC's in order
to move them to a new domain?

Thanks

You should be able to run dcpromo on each of the two DCs
to demote them, then you can run it again and join them to
any domain you want or create a new forest.

Not sure, but if you try to change the Operation Masters
(FSMO), it might work.

Use DCPROMO to demote.

If you can't access the root domain controllers, you won't be able to demote
the child dc's normally.

If you have sp4 installed you can use the dcpromo switch in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=332199

Just be aware that if you remove these domain controllers your current user
base will no longer exist at all. You will be starting over with a new
forest/ domain.

Thank you!
