Rollout XP image

Hi...We are about to rollout the XP pro. As well known, MS is very
restrict on the XP license now. By default, all our computers come with
an OEM XP pro license, We used to use Ghost image, and was told that it
is only good for XP Volume License.

We then tend to use RIS and/or Sysprep.
Could any body confirm that:
1) if RIS (RIPrep) is good to do the OEM license?
2) if Sysprep is good to do the OEM license?
3) What is the difference between RIPrep and Sysprep in terms of
imaging process?

Thanks,
fshguo.

I am not familiar with riprep, however I do know about sysprep. If all you
must do is create a good image from on machine and ghost it to others,
sysprep can do this. WHat must be done is that sysprep manager must be run
first, while going through this, when you come to the field that it asks you
for the reg key just click next. It is mostly self explanitory. On the last
step of sysprep manager, you must click cancel due to the fact that it is
actually finished, yet there is no "finish". After you have finished sysprep
manager, run sysprep. After this is run, you will shutdown. Once you start up
you MUSTghost, or you will have to do the whole process over again. After you
ghost, it will be just like a factory direct "install". You will have to got
through the whole process as if its a new install(i.e. name, company, admin
password, and reg key) However, once you finish with this, all the programs
that were ghosted will be there.

I realize this is more than you asked for, but because i am unfamilar with
riprep i figured i would try to make up for it.

this may be of some assistance as well.

If you're using OEM, and not Volume License, the only way I can think
of doing it would be to normally create your "master" unit using the
OEM XP Pro,, install your applications and so, then when ready, create
the sysprep.inf, then in the [UserData] section, omit the ProductKey
entry. Once prepped, the mini-setup will run then ask for the OEM key,
if they are the OEM keys provided with the machines, they will be on
the side. It's kind of inconvenient, but atm the only way I could think
to do it.
