Roaming profiles

I've noticed that once a used has logged on locally to a workstation and
their roaming profile is copied locally that subsequent logins take a lesser
amount of time than when they first logged in to that workstation.

When a user logs in and they have a roaming profile, does something check
the dates the files were last changed in the roaming profile and if they
match the files that are in the locally cached profile it doesn't attempt to
copy them? Or, does it copy the entire romaing profile everytime the user
logs in? Thanks.

AFAIK, only missing and more recent files are copied.
