Roaming Profiles not unloading/updating

Paul

I have a Windows 2000 domain with 2 domain controllers and
about 75 clients all running with SP4. Roaming profiles
are not being copied up to the server. The Application
event log displays this error on the client...

Event ID: 1000

Windows cannot unload your registry file. If you have a
roaming profile, your settings are not replicated. Contact
your administrator.

DETAIL - Access is denied. , Build number ((2195)).

I enabled the userenv debug log, and have the following
entries...

USERENV(c8.b0) 12:24:20:169 MyRegUnLoadKey: Hive unload
for S-1-5-21-587491783-915562515-1543859470-1084 failed
due to open registry key. Windows will try unloading the
registry hive once a second for the next 60 seconds (max).
USERENV(c8.b0) 12:25:20:306 MyRegUnLoadKey: Windows was
not able to unload the registry hive.
USERENV(c8.b0) 12:25:20:306 MyRegUnLoadKey: Failed to
unmount hive 5
USERENV(c8.b0) 12:25:20:306 UnloadUserProfile: Didn't
unload user profile <err = 5>
USERENV(c8.b0) 12:25:20:316 DumpOpenRegistryHandle: 2 user
registry Handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-
587491783-915562515-1543859470-1084
USERENV(c8.b0) 12:25:20:326 ReportEvent failed. Error =
1502

No errors are logged on the server. I found some articles
in the KB, but they only suggest loading the latest
servicepack and check various file attributes, which I did
multiple times without success.

About a month ago, a child domain was disconnected
abruptly. This is the only change that I can think of
happening.

If I create a new user in the domain, the roaming profiles
work on the same machine that a different user's roaming
profile doesn't work. So it doesn't sound like a machine
specific problem to me.

Please help!

Thanks in advance

Paul

try doing a
net stop spooler
prior to log off to ascertain if this is the 329170 related issue?
