Roaming Profiles changes not saved on laptop.

How do I allow a roaming user to log onto a laptop, take it home, do some work and when they bring it back, update their copy on the server with the new copy? Currently, all it does is download the server copy and all the changes are lost.

Then you ought to see some roaming profile errors in your event logs,
presuming your setup is pretty vanilla on the server. The user is always
logging on to the domain, right?

Yeah, logs on fine no problems, just when they go away, changes aren't saved such as moving files into folderrs etc.

Are you using offline files?

I don't recommend using the default profile folders for data storage - nor
am I fond of offline files.
For all desktop users, I redirect My Documents to the user's home directory
(either manually or via group policy) and for laptop users, I redirect it to
c:\data, and then use a third party sync utility called SecondCopy from
www.centered.com to sync that with their home directory when they're on the
LAN.

Keep profiles *tiny* and they generally work fine.

So Windows doesn't do it on its own? Profile sizes aren't a problem, because they are quick to log on, just the saving problem when they have been disconnected.

Do what? Yes, there's Offline Files - but I hate it, personally. And don't
let My Documents roam regardless. Just redirect it.

Still, what size are they?

If you redirect them though, how do they edit their existing documents when they are disconnected from the domain?

Are these laptop users?

If so, I point My Documents at c:\data and use SecondCopy to sync it when
they're connected again.

If they're desktop users, I just make sure they aren't going to be
disconnected from the domain. ;-)

Well unfortunatly they are desktop users. Don't worry about it, I'll find another way, thanks for your help though.

Are you having problems with disconnections? I guess I'm not sure what the
issue is here -
