RJ45 networking thru cross cable....help,not working

Hi,
I need to connect my laptop to my desktop thru rj-45 cross cable...but
i am not able to connect the two computers...an error comes:the
screenshot for error is here::

it says limited or no connection... do i need some extra software for
connection???

No.. use the Windows Network Connection Wizard, and opt to create the
network diskette that, when used, will ensure that both computers are on the
same page..

Turn off firewalls in both the machines and retry.

Make sure that both computers have static IP address set and they are
on the same subnet this should fix the problem.

can you ping one machine from the other? Even though this error comes, PC
to PC communication may still be possible.
