RIS, Win2k Pro and SP4

Hey all! Have a problem and was wondering if anyone else has had this
problem. I have an image on my RIS server that I slipstreamed SP4 onto from
a 2k pro cd that had sp2 to begin with. When I install my image, the machine
only show sp2! If I upgrade my machine with SP4 and then try to load the
image up to my server it says that the version I have is missing or not
available on the server! Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on??
Thanks!

Hi Mike,

You are going to need to setup that image again. The correct way to
slipstream is to:

1. copy the cd-based image to your drive,
2. extract the SP to a separate folder on the drive
3. slipstream the SP to the cd-based i386 folder
4. run RISETUP on the RIS server and point to the slipstreamed i386 folder.

You should not slipstream an existing RIS image or problems will occur.

Thanks Scott! That worked! As soon as you said that I went out to MS site
and found that KB Article. Thanks!

Take a look at this article from Microsoft -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;258868

Basically, the slipstream switch does not work, when
applying to a RIS CD based image. I had the same
problem, and followed the directions from this article.

Basically, you copy the I386 folder from your CD, to a
location on the hard drive, then slipstream the service
pack in as you normally would.

To add to RIS, run RISETUP -add, point to this folder as
the source for your files. That will give you a CD Based
Image, with whatever service pack level you want.
