RIS restore

Alice

The drive on which RIS is installed has failed. What is
the safest way to restore the installation to a new drive?
Thanks

I haven't done a RIS restore but I have duplicated a RIS server and I think
you could follow the same procedures:

You will need to reinstall the Remote Installation Services on the server so
it can setup the SIS etc. First remove it through Add / Remove Programs then
re-add it - point it to your new drive. Feed it an i386 directory when
prompted. Name the directory it installs the image into something different
to those you have on your backup tape.

Restore the contents of \Reminst\Setup\English\Images from your back tape
into the same location on the new drive
Restore the contents of \Reminst\OSChooser from your backup tape into the
same location on the new drive - only necessary if you customized the .osc
files.

Stop and Start the BINLSVC service on the server, remove the original image
you installed when you setup RIS (optional) then boot up a client and test.

Please post back here if you have any problems.
