I recently moved from 98 to XP Pro and there is one big thing I don't seem to
be able to do. I make a lot of folders and would always right click then
keyboard short cut "N" and "F" new folder. In XP the "N" does not work. If I
point to new I can then shortcut the "F", but I would like to do both.

It's now _W_ for New, so the keystrokes would be (after the right
click), w, f.

The "F" is correct, but the "N" isn't. When you right-click, note
that the "W" in "New" is underlined, not the "N"; the "W" is the
correct key to use.

Thanks to each of you. That works, but my 'w' is not
underlined.

You're welcome, but are you sure about the underline? Look more
closely, and I think you'll see that it is.

Well, I have been accused of being shortsighted before, but, nope it is not
underlined.

Interestingly, on the first right click nothing is underlined. In all the
secondary options (like 'arrange icons by' and 'new') the only underline is
under 'new' 'F'older and 'S'hortcut.

You're welcome! Are you sure the w isn't underlined? Do you get any
other characters showing the underline (such as the V in View)?

Right click the Desktop | Properties |
Appearance tab | Effects button |
UNCheck: Hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation until I press the
Alt key |
OK |Apply | OK

[[Specifies whether to suppress the drawing of keyboard shortcuts (the
underlined characters in menus and controls) and input focus indicators (the
dotted rectangles around objects), until you actually start using the
keyboard to navigate in Windows, generally with the ALT, TAB, or arrow
keys.]]

Aha! That is the setting I needed. Thank you Wes, and to everyone who brought
a bit of enlightenment to me on this subject.
