Right Click New Menu Full

Whenever I right click on the desk top and select "New" option it takes
forever for the menu to appear. I'm assuming its due to the 40 or so menu
items available. How do I remove these selections from the "New" menu
options. It has almost all of my programs listed and I only need one or two.
Please if someone can help I would be forever in your debt. I've searched
high and low for a resolution but I guess I'm looking in the wrong place
and/or searching for the wrong key words.
