Right click hang time

E

Eric DD

Running WinXP 2.0 gig procr. 512 ram
All latest Win updts are in.
Do regular scan disk and de frags.
Use Norton Pro 2003 all updts in.
Win. firewall is on.

I right click ANY file or folder anywhere (desktop or
in Win Explr) and system hangs 15 to 20 seconds. The
expected pop up window of "open with" or "send to" will
come up after this hang time but only for a flash of a
second. Then re-try right click only on this file or
folder and window appears. If I attempt a different
file or folder I get same hang time all over again.

This will repeat itself on the very next file or folder
that a right click is done on. It does this on both
HDD's. 2nd HDD is just 200 gig storage drive. Oper
system is on 40 gig drive.

Time length of time system is on makes no diff.
The type of file or folder makes no diff.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE?

Thanks Eric
