I have Windows 2000 Pro installed and when I right click on an item on the
desktop or a file within a window that window locks up. This also occurs when
I try to copy, drag, or use the file button after a file in that window is
selected. I can close the window by right clicking on the window frrom the
task bar and then selecting close and then ending task from the "not
responding" box that appears. These same symptoms occur when I right click on
the "start" button or on an item from the "favorites" folder in IE. I can
right click within a window or on the desktop as long is it is not on a file
or drive and it will bring up the menu and work fine. If anyone has any
suggestions or knows of a solution I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for everyone’s time and help,
Mark

Trying seeing if this happens on a different user on that machine. If it works ok, then I believe that your user profile is corrupt. Best would be to create a new one and move all docs from the old to the new.

If it happens on the second user, then it appears the OS is corrupt in some way, or has some other serious probs. Best would be to reinstall fresh.

Keep us informed.

Thanks Mark!

I have reinstalled Windows before however the problem keeps reoccurring. I
added another user (as you suggested) and logged on as that user and
everything works Great. Do you think it could be a program corrupting the
system?

Thanks Again for your time and help,
Mark
