Right-click on desktop in W2k causes explorer.exe to close

Hi,
I have a problem on a PC running Windows 2000 Pro, SP4 (all latest Windows
updates installed) where every time I right-click on the desktop, I get a
Program Error: "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program." Dr. Watson gives the
following information:

Application exception occurred:
App: explorer.exe (pid=856)
When: 9/28/2006 @ 14:26:43.781
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

The PC has a dual processor.

Does anyone know of any other examples of this fault and what fixes there
are, if any? I have searched through the knowledgebase but any similar
articles refer to causes other than the one I am seeing.

Try updating your graphics card drivers

Steve,

I had already installed the latest driver update, but following your answer
I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it again and this seems to have
cured the problem.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Richard.
