Exceptions in Explorer.exe causes crash

R

Robert O'Neill

Symptoms:
<Explorer crashes randomly, PhotoEd. crashes when I try to
print. Outlook Express crashes and sometimes closes
without leaving any message.
DrWatson log file rapidly fills up to 4Mb.>

Please could anyone explain what causes Exception number:
c0000005 (access violation) when using Explorer.exe and
PhotoEd.exe and possibly other windows Exe files.

I have allowed windows 2k to update as automatic. I have
installed McAfee Virus Scan V8 downloaded from McAfee
website. My pc has 500Mb Ram. and is linked via a 100tbase
card to one other: Windows 98 pc using TC/IP.

McAfee recommended removing their program in case it is
causing the problem. But I have not identified the culprit
yet.

What can I do to overcome the unexpected crashes?

mshtml.dll.

Remove IE 6 and return to a prior version. Then put back in IE 6 SP1 then install cumulative update October 2003.

In the meantime
Start | Run | regsvr32 /u thumbvw.dll | OK | OK
