I finally called microsoft on this issue. It turns out there was a conflict
between the video driver and the network card driver with regards to my
system. I am running a DX48BT2 system with an Visionteck ATI 2600 chipset.
It took 2 hours to diagnose and may be due to a bug in the system. We will
see if Microsoft comes out with a fix or if Intel comes out with a better
driver for the network card. I did reinstall the latest ATI driver and have
not had problems since.

Hi,

Click start and type "internet explorer". One of the menu entries will be
(no addons), select this and see if the problems still occur.

If they do not, and I suspect they won't, you will need to begin
disabling/uninstalling addons that are loading with internet explorer. This
is done under internet options/programs tab/manage addons.

You should try to avoid tagging onto older posts with new problems, as yours
may go unseen and unanswered buried pages deep.

The problem occures during Browsing my files and is the same fault as
mentioned on the first item.
But your statement of to make it work is about INTERNET EXPLORER but is
about just the WINDOWS VISTA EXPLORER.
So this didn't help at all, please come forward with a working solution.

Hi,

The solution, as written, is for a user having trouble with Internet
Explorer, but the problem is likely the same. Internet Explorer and Windows
Explorer share many modules, and a problematic plug-in for IE can easily
affect WE. Through the Control Panel/Internet Options/Programs tab, disable
unnecessary add-ons, then retry running Windows Explorer.

I found out the answer and some won't like the results

Vista ultimate , I only speak of it because thats all I have is very codec
un-freindly

If you have any program that installs it's own codecs in windows folder it
causes "comm surrogate error" and "windows explorer crashes"

I'm [here the part people may not like] talking of programs such as "nero"
and "roxio" and probly converter w/their own codecs

I had a year of trouble till I figured this out and now my system is running
great

heres what I now use

codec pack "K-LITE MEGA CODEC 417"

burning "Ashampoo 8"

converting video "Winavi and cucusoft pro 7.07"

this combo works and well I can play all video formats on windows media player

and I can convert all formats to DVD

Ashampoo burns quicker that Nero and uses less space ashampo 33mb[nero184mb]
[the new roxio 2009 2.24 GB] so you can see the benifit there

I have tested this configuration for a couple day's now , and no errors or
crashes at all , my dreams and desk scapes all now work

I converted and burned 30 movies yesterday

hope this helps others , my trouble was I thought bigger and more options
was better I was so wrong

simple and does the job works much better I now have a stable and working
system

finally !!!!! vista don't suck any more

found this out on my own w/help from a few forums , they didn't know the
answer but helped piont me the right way

Hi,

The BCCode, 0x8E, indicates a driver problem, and the fact that it happens
when you connect a bluetooth device gives a pretty clear definition of where
the problem lies. You need to check with the system manufacturer for an
updated driver set to support the hardware as a first step.

Not only that, but if it's only a month old, contact Dell since it is still
under warranty.

The solution worked. I disabled 'Search Helper' under the Microsoft
