Right Click Context Mwnu On Desktop

E

effdee

I used to be able to right click on the desktop or in a folder and have the
option to 'create new "TEXT" file', but it's gone missing!
How do I get it back?
and
At the same time remove the options I don't want there because I never ever
use them?

Install TweakUI:

TweakUI > Templates.

I already have it installed, and have already tried that, but it won't fix

????? What won't it fix?
If you don't have a New Text File, then use TweakUI to create it.
If you don't want options there, then use TweakUI to remove them.
What happens when you try either option?

....Alan

E

effdee

TwaekUI won't fix it.
I have removed the ones I don't want, I now have only two options left
there, "Microsoft Word Document" and "WinRAR Archive".
I told it to add new "TXT file" but it won't work, very frustrating.

OK, I guess you mean you can't create a new text document with
TweakUI.
Exactly what steps did you take to create one?

....Alan

E

No, TweakUI can't restore the option to the right click menu to create a new
TXT file.
I can however use the option to create a new MS Word DOC, but simply save-as
a TXT file to get what I want.
thanks anyway.

Hi,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft newsgroup!

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: the new txt document
option is missing in the right click context menu. If I'm off base, please
feel free to let me know.

By my research, you can recover the txt option by importing the attached
Reg file. Since many firewalls will block Reg file, I renamed the file to
Txt.

Have a great day!

The v- address indicates that this person is a contract worker, from a temp
service such as Volt, on contract to Microsoft. So, it would be safe to
reply to them via e-mail.

Additionally, you can try downloading and installing TweakUI for Windows XP.
Run TweakUI from the Start Menu (unlike previous versions it doesn't install
as a Control Panel applet). Go to Templates. If Text Document is checked,
uncheck it and click Apply. Then check it and click Apply.

TweakUI is available from

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp (SP1 and
later systems)

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/downloads/powertoys.asp (Pre SP1
systems)

You can also add TweakUI to the Control Panel. See www.dougknox.com, Win XP
Utilities, Add TweakUI for Windows XP to Control Panel.
