Is there a way to have the Tabs stay on the "last used" opposed to constantly
going back to the Home? I am using the Insert tab constantly and it is
annoying that I have to keep going back to the Insert tab after each arrow.

Thanks.

Perhaps I'm not clear on what you are asking, but it seems that you want to
continuously use the Shapes tools without having to keep returning to the
Insert tab. If that's the case you can't set the tab as a default but...

1- As long as you have a shape selected the Insert Shapes group of the
Drawing Tools Format contextual tab gives you access to all the shape tools
using the scroll arrows or the More button right below them, and

2- If you intend to use the same tool repeatedly right-click it & choose
"Lock Drawing Mode" to keep the tool active for as long as you want.

Also, if it's helpful you can hold Shift+Control while to drag an existing
shape in order to duplicate it or use the Control+D keystroke.

Thank you for the quick response and info, those tips are definately helpful.

I was thinking more on the line of ... Is there a way to lock the whole
"Insert" tab so I have access to Page Break, Clip Art, Shapes, etc the entire
time I work on a document. When I want go back to "Home" I can unlock the
"Insert" tab to allow it to go back to defauts. When I open a new document
it keeps the default "Home" tab and if I want the "Mailings" tab to work with
then I could lock "Mailings" to use. If this feature isn't available yet,
perhaps it might be in the future since this option would be EXTREMELY
beneficial when editing large complicated documents with text, diagrams, and
tables.

In my experience, Word keeps the selected tab in front until I select a
different one, with the exception that if I click on or in an object that
has a contextual tab associated with it (table, picture), then I will see
the contextual tab instead. I don't find that Word switches back to Home
while I am working.

Hi Suzanne -

I think what Jennifer is referring to is that once you draw a shape the
Drawing Tools - Format contextual tab takes precedence but as soon as you
have no object selected the Ribbon reverts to the Home tab. She would prefer
to have it revert to the Insert tab. I don't know of any way to cause that
to happen. Any thoughts?

Jennifer - Another thought that may help if you are mostly concerned about
having certain shape tools readily available... Some of those tools can be
added as individual buttons on the QAT - perhaps the ones you need.
