REWARD: How the **** can I disable smooth scrolling in Wordpad?

Hi forum,

this almost drives me crazy. Smooth scrolling in Wordpad has suddenly
appeared a couple of years ago and I have not managed to get rid of it
ever since.

This "feature" even survived a recent "format:c" and subsequent new
installation of Windows XP, possibly because I've used XP's "settings
transfer wizard".

Actually, it is more like a "constant speed scrolling": If I turn the
mouse wheel really fast, Wordpad starts to scroll and exactly ends up
at the point where I stopped the mouse wheel -- however taking ages for
this since the window contents would *not* scroll faster than a certain
constant number of lines per second.

The same happens at two more places: 1.) in Adobe Reader 8 (but not in
Reader 7!), and 2.) in the Google deskbar mini-viewer (which is based
on the IE6 rendering engine).

I'm wondering what the heck have Wordpad, Adobe Reader 8 and the Google
deskbar mini-viewer in common?? Could it be some broken DLL file or
something...?

There is *no* smooth scrolling anywhere else on the entire PC, not in
Internet Explorer 6, and also not in Outlook Express, neither in Word
nor in Editor etc.

ALL registry settings containing "smooth...." are set to disabled
already.

I'd really like to offer $20 or so if someone can tell me how to
resolve this.

Thanks,
David.P

PS:

I forgot to mention that this unwanted smooth scrolling also *does*
occur in Adobe Reader v7 - however, in Reader 7 only if Reader is in
'single page view mode', not in 'continuous page view mode'.

In Reader 8, the annoying smooth scroll behaviour appears in *both*
single page and continuous page view mode.
