Reverting from LINUX to W2k

Hi,
I have a harddisk of 20GB (1) and it is installed with
Windows 2000 and bought another hdd of 40GB (2) and i
installed mandrake in it. I had dual boot and i used to
run both win2k and mandrake from the boot list. Recently I
removed my harddisk (2) from my computer and now I face a
problem. I can't able to boot to windows anymore from my
first harddisk. I'm sure all the cable connection are
perfect and still I don't able to get into windows
anymore. It is saying "Disk Boot Failure, Insert
System......".

It works perfect if i connect my second hdd and brings the
boot list and i can boot.

I think this problem is due to the mandrake boot mapping.
Maybe Linux changed the MBR of i can't change it anymore.
I donno how to change back to MBR with Windows as primary
boot and I want to remove my hdd-2 permanently.

I guess "FDISK /MBR" should solve this but donno whether
i'll lose my data in my hdd-(1). I have some vital data in
it and I don't want to lose it.

How to fix this problem? anybody can help me out? Waiting
for the genius response asap coz i can't able to use my
computer anymore.

thanx.

fdisk /mbr will rewrite the master boot record of any disk.
It works both for FAT and for NTFS partitions, without
affecting the data.

By the way, have you given any consideration to this
novel idea of backing up your vital data, once every week?
I suspect that you will do it, sooner or later - it's just a
question of how much pain it takes to convince you.
