I lost part of a database file and it made it useless.

I had disk backed-up (burned) the previous Access document
to save and it became a "Read Only File". When I sent the
file back to the hard drive, it stayed that way and I
can't alter.

How can I reverse READ ONLY document or save as a
changeable format?

PS: I reloaded the program "Office 97" and it didn't help
and decided that the file was probably corrupted?
(previous saved documents were complete, but READ ONLY

Most CD burning software sets the read-only flag, and copying from the CD
doesn't reset it.

Select the file(s) in File Explorer, right-click and select Properties from
the context menu. Uncheck the Read-only attribute.
