Retrieving Windows Mail Messages from a CD after Laptop crashed

P

Peter Flannery

Hi all,
I'm trying to restore my old Windows Mail messages to my new laptop from a
cd and after trying "File-Import-Messages-Windows Mail 7 and specifying the
location of the cd drive I get the message "no messages can be found in this
folder or another application is open that has the required files open" The
messages are on the cd and no other application is open. Any idea what I can
do to fix this?

Thanks

Don't import from external media. Copy from the media to an empty folder
under your username (a sub-folder under Documents or Desktop is fine).
Examine the attribute of the copied file and make sure it is not 'Read Only'.

Thanks Gary, I copied the mail folders and contents into a new folder in
Documents but got the same message when I tried to import them. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks & regards.

Did you make sure the file attribute was not set to "Read Only"?
