Retire BDC in 2K Domain

Hi,

We have a 2K domain w/ 2 DC's and a leftover BDC. I want
to take the BDC off the network b/c it's not needed
anymore. What's the procedure for this? Is it as easy as
deleting the computer account in the "Domain Controllers"
OU? Thanks in advace. -Glen

There is no BDC in a 2000 domain,...is this an NT4 BDC? I believe an NT4
box can simply be yanked and then delete its account in AD. But a 2000 DC
must be demoted to a member server, allow time for replication complete the
change accross the whole domain, then you can ether yank it and delete the
account or better yet, move it to a workgroup, let replicatation catch up
again, then yank it.

Hi Phil,

Sorry, by "leftover" I was meaning a NT domain. I should
have been more specific. Thanks for the info...-Glen
