Resuming Windows - gets stuck

Most of the time when I shut down my laptop and then later open it up, it
gets as far as saying that it's resuming Windows, and just stays there.

My power settings are:

When I close the lid on my laptop, hibernate.

When I press the power button, shut down.

I'm running Windows XP Home on a Dell Inspiron 5100 Laptop.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
 
im having the same problem with the same system. i too would like to know how
to fix this.
