Resuming downloads using IE6

Hi all,

I was just looking for advice re: resuming file downloads using IE6? I
remember a year or two back, you could click on a file to download
(e.g. MP3), and before it'd finished you could cancel it, then re-
click it and it's carry on downloading from the previous point without
having to start again.

Nowadays my computer won't do this, so cancelling a file means only to
start again at 0%.

I've made sure my IE cache is large enough and I'm also trying to re-
start the download straight away.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Leo

IE 6 supports resuming downloads on only from servers that support this
feature. If you've done this at the site before, and it's stopped working
on that site, first thing I would try would be to totally delete your
Temporary Internet Files folder:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm - manually delete the entire
folder from another account with admin. privileges. When you reboot, it
will be recreated empty, and you'll clear the super-hidden index.dat data
indexing file in that folder which doesn't reset if emptying the folder from
IE's interface. Or use the CCleaner app linked on the site mentioned. When
using it's TIF clean option, also check the index.dat box.

But, this functionality in IE can be iffy at best, so if you find yourself
having broken downloads often, I would get a third-party download manager,
like http://www.reget.com/en/
